La sombra de Proteo : transformación del Tesoro Americano durante el siglo XVII

Abstract

Este artículo se propone estudiar el modo a través del cual la Monarquía Hispánica gastó el tesoro americano en el siglo XVII. Analizando las relaciones juradas del Archivo General de Indias, es posible determinar que hubo una importante evolución: durante los reinados de Felipe III y Felipe IV, los banqueros internacionales recibieron la mayor parte de la plata que llegó a España. Pero esta situación cambió desde 1650 y el destino principal del tesoro durante el reinado de Carlos II fue el gobierno americano.

This paper aims to study the way the Hispanic Monarchy spent the American Treasure in the 17th century. By analyzing the relaciones juradas of the Archivo General de Indias, it is possible to determine that there was an important evolution: during the reigns of Philip III and Philip IV, the international bankers received the biggest part of the silver arrived to Spain. But this situation changed from 1650 and the principal destiny of the Treasure during the reign of Charles II was the American Government.
