Lo que García Márquez aprendió de "L'Éducation sentimentale" de Gustave Flaubert para "El amor en los tiempos del cólera"

Abstract

Nuestra intención con el presente artículo es establecer claramente qué era lo que Gabriel García Márquez iba buscando en L’Éducation sentimentale cuando la leyó en 1983 como preparación para su siguiente novela, El amor en los tiempos del cólera. Es decir, trataremos de determinar si aquella lectura de una de las principales obras de Flaubert tuvo algún tipo de influencia o efecto en el resultado final de la novela de García Márquez. En este sentido nos centraremos en cuatro aspectos concretos: la caracterización de Florentino Ariza, el título de la novela, el tratamiento del tiempo y el espacio, y la mezcla de ficción e historia.

Our aim with this article is to establish clearly what was what Gabriel García Márquez was looking for in L’Éducation sentimentale when he read it in 1983 as a preparation for his next novel, El amor en los tiempos del cólera. That means, we will try to determine if that reading of one of Flaubert’s main works had any kind of influence or effect in the final result of García Márquez’s novel. In this sense we will focus on four specific aspects: Florentino Ariza’s characterization, the title of the novel, the treatment of time and space, and the mixing of fiction and history.
