Abstract

Quantitative biófácies analysis of forarriiniferal assemblages, based on information from distributional patterns of benthic foraminifera, in samples from Guianas continental shelf, allows recognition of three major groups of assemblages. One group es dominated by fossil marine benthic foraminifera and tests which are damaged could have been transported, the other is dominated by restricted fagoonal forms, and a gradual transition to open mariné forms. The most recent assemblage consists of coastal or continental shelf marine species. Stratigraphie distribution of the assemblages indicates some sea level variations can also affect Guianas continental shelf: a first one dated around 3600 years B.P and a second one identified around 2500 years B.P
