Abstract
Este artículo lleva a cabo un análisis de la autonomía universitaria desde una perspectiva histórica. Se trata, sin duda, de uno de los elementos más sobresalientes que se desprenden de la misión de toda universidad. Unido a la misma desde su fundación, a lo largo de la historia ha oscilado entre la pérdida total de la misma y la fuerte capacidad para tomar decisiones de ciertas universidades en torno a lo que entendían por docencia e investigación. Ha sido y es un elemento que ha sufrido diversas formas de análisis. Hoy se presenta nuevamente como un componente esencial de las universidades que pretenden el logro de los objetivos que le son encomendados.
This article carries out an analysis of the university autonomy from a historical perspective. It is no doubt one of the most outstanding elements that emerge from the mission of every university. Together with it since its foundation, throughout history it has oscillated between the total loss of it and the strong ability to make decisions of certain universities around what they understood by teaching and research. It has been and is an element that has undergone various forms of analysis. Today it is presented again as an essential component of universities that seek to achieve the objectives entrusted to it.
