Abstract

The study examined the relationship between teachers’ emotional intelligence (EI), their emotion-focused interactions with students, and the engagement and flourishing. Mediation analyses were conducted to examine the mediating role of emotion-focused interactions in the relationship between teachers’ EI and occupational and personal well-being. A total of 346 teachers from different secondary schools participated in the study. The results showed that emotion-focused interactions partially mediated the relationship between EI and engagement, as well as between EI and flourishing. These findings suggest that teachers’ EI contributes to their well-being and engagement both directly and through emotional interactions with students. This highlights the importance of promoting emotional competencies as a way to foster emotional strategies with students thereby contributing to teacher well-being.
