Abstract

Measurements of temperature loggings in piezometers and water temperature in the surrounding of the urban solid waste landfill of La Ivlina (Marbella, Málaga) have shown an alteration in the natural thermal field of the carbonated aquifer of Marbella. The difference between the landfill temperature (70 °C), because of the wastes degradation, and the groundwater (18-19 °C) have generated an increase of more than 65 % of the natural hydrogeothermal gradient towards the landfill, and more than 2 °C in the average groundwater temperature. The correlation coefficient between the hydrogeothermal gradient (R = -0'993) or groundwater temperature (R = -0'870) with the distance to the landfill show high and negative values. The homogeneous lithology in the area, made up exclusively by marbles of Triassic age, discards changes in the temperature due to differents thermal conductivities of the rock
