Abstract

In the five extant Greek novels some of the elements of narrative (person, event, time, place and manner) are often amplified in order to become rhetorical ekphraseis as described in the Progymnasmata . In this paper these ekphraseis , their function and their formal and stylistic characteristics are analysed.
