La degradación cuaternaria del piedemonte del rio Yeltes (Salamanca)

Abstract

El río Yeltes, tributario del Tormes y originario de la Sierra de la Peña de Francia, a la salida de ésta se enmarca en una orla de sedimentos aluviales de planta triangular, formados por rañas y terrazas fluviales. Pertenecen al piedemonte meridional de la fosa de Ciudad Rodrigo, edificado sobre una formación roja miocena que sella un relleno fundamentalmente arcósico atribuido al Paleógeno medio-superior. El techo de este piedemonte que se prolonga hacia el interior montañoso, está constituido por un sistema de grandes conos aluviales con carácter de raña. Dichos abanicos están constituidos por sedimentos fluviales de alta energía, cuyo escalonamiento sucesivo en plataformas cada vez más alargadas, marcan el ritmo de la disección hasta la definición actual del río Yeltes. La franja de depósitos fluviales asociados, con sus rasgos cambiantes (sobre lodo edáficos y de alteración), paralelamente a su evolución, se alarga desde los grandes abanicos iniciales hacia el límite septentrional de la fosa, donde se estrangulan por el encajamiento del río. Dicho estrangulamiento causado por el condicionamiento morfo y litoestructural ejercido por el sustrato en el trazado del río, define una situación cartográfica anómala en relación con otros piedemontes conocidos de la Meseta. Concretar la edad de los distintos episodios de su evolución es por el momento bastante problemática

The Yeltes river, is a tributary of the Tormes River and native of the Peña de Francia range mountains. At the exit of the Peña de Francia System the river is framed in a fringe of alluvial sediments of triangular plant, formed by rañas and fluvial terraces, belonging these to the southern piedemont of the Ciudad Rodrigo’s basin, which is built on a red miocene formation that seals a filling fundamentally arkosic, attributed to the Middle-Upper Paleogene . The upper pan of this piedmont, which is prolonged toward the mountainous interior, is constituted by a system of big alluvial cones with the character of raña. These fans are constituted by fluvial sediments of high energy whose successive stepping in more and more lengthened platforms, mark the rhythm of the dissection until the current definition of the river Yeltes. The fringe of fluvial deposits associated, with their changing features (mainly edafic and of alteration), in parallell to their evolution, lengthens from the big initial fans toward the northern limit of the grave, where they are strangled by the fitting of the river. This strangulation, caused by the morphological and lithostructural conditioning exercised by the substrat in the layout of the river, defines an anomalous cartographic situation in connection with other well-known piedmonts of the Plateau. To sum up the age of the different episodes of their evolution is at the moment impossible
