To this end, panel data is utilised. An innovative approach is applied, which adapts itself to the fact that the cultural values remain fairly stable over time, while the economic conditions are changeable. Specifically, a stochastic frontier production model is set in which the changeable economic conditions determine the frontier (maximum) for the entrepreneurship rate of a country, while the stable prevailing cultural values explain the level of efficiencyinefficiency. After describing the channels through which monetary policy may have an impact on income distribution, we perform a panel analysis of 15 EU (European Union) countries covering the period 1995-2014. The results provide evidence of a significant positive relationship between real interest rates and income inequality measured as the Gini coefficient. However, this relationship only becomes significant in the medium term but not in the short term. Más allá de las simplificaciones frecuentes, las conexiones entre los debates sobre comercio internacional y los impactos sobre la distribución de los ingresos ocupaban un lugar central en sus planteamientos, así como el papel del comercio como factor de un crecimiento cuyos efectos distributivos asimismo eran centrales. En la actualidad muchas de esas controversias están presentes con fuerza. Este artículo examina algunos de los problemas más actuales del comercio internacional tratando de sacar partido de algunos de los mensajes de Ricardo que en algunos casos resultan ser de más interés y matices de lo se desprende de que versiones simplificadoras
