Abstract
In this paper Ph.D. Sergio García Ramírez addresses the different ways in which the thinking and work of Cesare Beccaria had influence on the political and legal evolution that took place in “our America”, as the famous essay of José Martí used to say. García Ramírez, well-versed in Beccaria’s work, writes about how the thinking of the celebrated Italian criminal lawyer “made its way” in the early American republics with their constitutional first drafts and declaration of independence based on the demands of justice, legality, equality and humanity.
