Abstract

Florence Nightingale was a key figure in the transformation of healthcare, nursing in particular, in the second half of the 19th century. Although she did not participate directly in healthcare management during the American Civil War, the ideas she expressed in her writings after the Crimean War have been of interest to those protagonists for military healthcare in both the Union and Confederate armies. These pages would serve as an introduction to the first Spanish translation of Nightingale's letters on the American Civil War, collected in The Collected Works of Florence Nightingale.
