Abstract
Based on previous research on lexical availability conducted with secondary education students in the province of Huelva, this paper analyses the rhetorical components of the vocabulary related to migration issues produced through that previous research, as well as underlying social perceptions and discourses on alterity. For that purpose, all the lexicon has been collected, which constitutes a corpus of over 200 words, and several classifications have been made, both rhetorical and frequency-based. The analysis of these classifications reveals that students perceive migration as a stereotyped process due to a precarious socioeconomic situation in the country of origin, which they associate with the African context. This has been related to the construction of collective identities and imagination around the “other” while proposing mechanisms that, from within educational institutions, allow for the construction of discourses free from prejudiced and stereotypical views
