Aspectos particulares de la ordenación de plantaciones de eucalipto (Eucalyptus globulus Labill.)

Abstract

La gran extensión alcanzada por las repoblaciones de eucalipto a escala mundial así como el gran crecimiento que presentan algunas especies del género en condiciones de estación favorables han dado lugar a una presencia creciente del eucalipto en el mercado de la madera, que demanda principalmente esta materia prima para la producción de energía y para la producción de pasta de celulosa, si bien se están abriendo nuevas aplicaciones para este tipo de madera por su oferta creciente y por sus favorables características tecnológicas. En el noroeste de la Península Ibérica la producción forestal aparece muy vinculada al aprovechamiento maderero de Eucalyptus globulus Labill., que reviste características particulares asociadas al medio físico, a la estructura de la propiedad y al entorno social. Por ello, los criterios que guían la planificación de las repoblaciones de eucalipto en el noroeste de la Península Ibérica, y en toda la Cornisa Cantábrica, deben adaptarse a las peculiaridades regionales y a las circunstancias del mercado._____________________________________The large world-wide extension of eucalypt afforestations and the high yield of some species of the genus in good sites have carried out an increasing presence of the eucalypt in the wood market. The main uses of this raw material are production of energy and cellulose but new uses are appearing for this kind of wood, because of its increasing supply and favourable technological performance. In the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula the forest production is very linked to the Eucalyptus globulus Labill harvesting, which exhibits specific features related to the physiography, the land tenure regime and the social environment. The criteria that guide the planning of eucalypt plantations must therefore adapt to the regional peculiarities and the circumstances of the market in the north of Spain.
