Considerando la construcción de Portus: la excavación del muelle de la linterna, nuevas aportaciones arquitectónicas y cronológicas

Abstract

El siguiente capítulo recoge los resultados de las actividades arqueológicas desarrolladas en el muelle este-oeste de Portus entre los años 2017 y 2021. Este muelle presenta a día de hoy un magnífico estado de conservación, si se le compara con otros de similares características. Los trabajos que se vienen realizando han permitido un mayor y mejor conocimiento de la estructura al poner de relieve interesantes y numerosos datos relativos a su sistema de construcción, cronología, así como diversas fases que fueron complejizando su fisonomía primitiva con el aditamento de ambientes, compartimentaciones, pantalanes, etc. Todo ello ha permitido ofrecer una imagen novedosa para este muelle que lleva a establecer una cronología, al menos en sus últimos metros, bajoimperial, con una importante transformación para momentos tardoantiguos. Con todo, la presente investigación plantea nuevos interrogantes que deberán esperar a futuras fases de estudio, ya que apenas se han comenzado a conocer sus particularidades constructivas.

The following chapter collects the results of the archaeological activities carried out on the east-west pier of Portus between 2017 and 2021. Today this pier is in a magnificent state of conservation when compared to others with similar characteristics. The works that are being carried out have allowed a greater and more comprehensive knowledge of the structure by highlighting interesting and numerous data related to its construction system, and chronology, as well as the phases that made its primitive appearance more complex with the addition of compartments, pontoons, etc. All of this has made it possible to offer a new picture of this wharf leading to the establishing a chronology, at least for its last meters, of the late imperial period, with an important transformation in Late Antiquity. However, this research raises new questions that will have to wait for future phases of study, since the specifics of its construction have barely begun to be known.
