Abstract

In the central Betics, the Adra unit represents the higher unit of the Alpujarride complex. This unit is bounded by Miocene low-angle normal faults. The lithostratigraphic sequence of Adra unit includes, from bottom to top: dark schists with garnet, light coloured schists (Palaeozoic), phyllites (Permo-Triassic) and carbonated rocks (upper Triassic). North-vergent recumbent folds have been recognized within the unit. They affect the lithological boundaries, the metamorphic isogrades and the main foliation, this latter formed during a decompression, that is with an extensional character. These data suggest the alternance of contractional and extensional events during the tectonic evolution of the Alpujarride Complex
