Abstract
pessoais; instabilidade laboral; conflitos interpessoais; burocracia e excesso de projetos;
In this study we used the assumption that any situation of stress requires a new adaptation by the individual. Thus, we considered that the effectiveness of coping strategies lies in their capacity to reduce disturbance felt by a person, situation, context and time. In a sample of five portuguese childhood educators working in portuguese Kindergarten public schools located in rural areas, seek to know their representations in relation to stress and coping at work. Analysis of the data suggests that kindergarten teachers have the same level of stress near the middle (2,8); the main sources of stress perceived fall under personal family-work/problems reconciliation; labor unrest; interpersonal conflicts; bureaucracy and excessive projects; student behavior; work environment; and time management. In turn, the most frequently used coping strategies are focused on problem-solving and social interaction. Finally, the study also demonstrates the need to promote organizational strategies by kindergarten and governmental entities with a view to reducing the stress of labor in kindergarten teachers.
