Abstract
Once the Discovery took place, the continuous displacements from one side of the Ocean to the other began; women participated in these movements, either directly or indirectly, feeling the consequences in their lives. For many of them, this movement brought positive outcome, but there were also those who were not fortunate, and the migratory phenomenon made their circumstances more difficult, such were the cases of María Martínez and Juana de Dios. Through a documentary corpus from the National Historical Archive, we will delve into the life experiences of these women who, at the beginning of the 19th century, were left helpless because of their husbands’ deeds in the American continent, to demonstrate the effects that these events had on their history.
