Penélope y el matriarcado

Abstract

The article analyses the figure of Penelope in her role as transmissor of royal power, a role that she acquires when her husband, Odisseus, basileus of Ithaca is missed for a lungtine. This fact has been used to support the existence of a matriarchal structure in Ancient Greek society. The purpose of the article is to challenge this view, and present a new interpretation of Penelope's role in the transmission of royal power.
