Abstract
The Mercedita chromite podiform deposit is genetically and spatially related to the Moa-Baracoa ophiolite complex (NW Cuba). The ore bodies are crosscuted by veins, filled up by uvarovite with variable amounts of chromiferous clinochlore , calcite, titanite and rutile. Garnets are zoned and display a broad composition comprised between uvarovite and grossular end members. Their andradite content is very low. These garnets were formed by hydrothermal circulation during late episodes of ophiolite emplacement.
