Abstract
profesorado.
In this study we explore teacher perceptions of cultural diversity management. Participants included sixteen teachers with experience ranging from 2 to 20 years of teaching from four secondary schools in the region of Andalusia. Semistructured interviews with the teachers from each school were used. Additional information was obtained through interviews with the principal, four families of immigrant students and a focus-group interview with the four school counselors. The results indicate that teachers perceive the management of cultural diversity as a particular problem, marginal and excluded from teaching practices. Moreover, teachers agree that the issue is one of adaptation, a problem to be solved by the students themselves with the support of school counselors and other educational specialists. The study ends by calling for further work in coordination with educational specialists and highlighting the need to include intercultural competence in initial and continuing teacher education.
