Abstract
This work is a first approximation to the understanding of the learning processes underlying the cognitive techniques and procedures used for the therapeutic change. In order to carry out our objectíve, all the segments of cognitive restructuring held in 23 video recorded treatment sessions were observed and analysed. We developed a categorization system with functional units to show the therapist-client verbal interaction. Some of these categoríes referred to leaming processes as reinforcement, punishment, discrimination and classical and operant extinction. Despite its Jimitations, one can conc/ude that identification of associative leaming processes taking place during the application of cognitive techniques could possibly be achieved with this methodology.
