Abstract
diseño cuantitativo descriptivo-explicativo, no experimental y ex post facto, utilizando cuestionarios validados y
In the Latin American and Peruvian context, Media and Information Literacy (MIL) plays a crucial role in Citizenship Education (CF) by addressing the challenges of the digital age. MIL, with its diverse approaches tailored to local realities, becomes a fundamental tool for CF, enabling citizens to access, evaluate, and create infor-mation in a data-saturated environment, thereby facilitating active and critical par-ticipation in society. This thesis aimed to analyse the relationship between MIL and CF among students at a public university in Peru, hypothesizing that higher levels of MIL are positively related to increased civic participation, critical thinking, and ethi-cal commitment. For this purpose, a quantitative, descriptive-explanatory, non-experimental, and ex post facto design was used, employing validated questionnaires administered through online surveys to collect data. The results reveal that MIL has a significant predictive effect on CF; an increase in MIL competencies is associated with an improvement in CF. However, civic participation and ethical commitment vary according to socio-formative factors such as gender and socioeconomic level, which moderate this relationship. The research concludes that strengthening MIL is essential for enhancing CF and participation in the digital society. It is recommended to adjust educational policies to better integrate MIL, address challenges such as the digital divide, and promote a more equitable development of digital and civic compe-tencies. Additionally, it suggests future research on the impact of socioeconomic and technological factors on the relationship between MIL and CF.
